Mission Statement
The elders want us to be focused on the same mission of the church of the New Testament. We want our mission statement to speak to our spiritual growth and outreach. It also needs to be something that gives us a sense of purpose and is easy to remember in our daily lives.
The mission we have agreed on is not so much a statement as it is a series of key words that help us remember who we are, whose we are, and what we are to be doing as a church. With each of these key words, there is an outwardly focused aspect of the word, and also a inwardly focused perspective. Those key words are:
Seek, grow, serve, love
Seek
We are to seek the lost. It was the reason why Jesus came to earth.
Luke 19:10
For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.
We are to seek God in our personal relationship with him.
Matthew 7:7-9
Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened
to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one
who knocks it will be opened.
Grow
We are to grow as a church.
Ephesians 4:15-16
Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is
the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every
joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body
grow so that it builds itself up in love.
We are to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus, learning about him and become more
like him.
2 Peter 3:18
But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be
the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
Serve
It was the way that Jesus approached everyone.
Matthew 20:26-28
It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your
servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son
of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for
many.
It is our approach to interacting with each other within the church.
1 Peter 4:10
As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s
varied grace:
Love
Of the three core Christian qualities, it is the greatest.
1 Corinthians 13:13
So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
It is that which holds us together – the glue of our relationships.
Colossians 3:14
And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect
harmony.
Our activities, programs, and outreach will all be based on these four core concepts: Seek, grow, serve, and love. Our prayer as elders is that these will further help to focus our efforts as a church and our personal walk with God.
